On his self-titled blog, renaissance man Livingroom Johnston has unveiled a new painting entitled Contemporary Imagination. The painting continues the elephant motif found in Livingroom’s current body of work.
“As things advance,” says the artist, “Livingroom Johnston thinks of things advancing in multiple forms and actions. Enjoy!”
Solid gold indeed.

Last Friday, the extraordinarily talented Maria Guido presented an exhibition of fine art photography entitled GIRLS. The exhibit, which took place at Tattoo Culture in the Billyburg section of Brooklyn and was sponsored by Needles & Sins, focused on the lovely ladies of the burgeoning burlesque scene, which has been seemingly gaining mainstream acceptance the past few years.
The place was packed with family, friends, burlesque enthusiasts, tattoo aficionados, and lovers of fine art. Of course, there was plenty of wine and beer to keep the crowd happy, and toward the end of the evening, burlesque performer Madame Leon wowed the crowd with a titillating feather fan dance.
Check out photos from the show after the jump.

This Friday, hit up ink-and-piercing emporium Tattoo Culture to catch the latest showcase from photographer extraordinaire Maria Guido.
Sponsored by Needles and Sins, the showcase, titled Girls, highlights a stunning selection of photographs spanning a decade and a half’s worth of shooting burlesque performers. Maria brings her feminine eye and “street” style to portraits that are often highly stylized—and traditionally shot from a male perspective. The result is an intimate look into the stage lives of the performers. Maria’s subjects are obviously very comfortable in front of her lens.

Every year, Los Angeles’s Gallery 1988 plays host to the Under The Influence Art Show, where pop culture icons like the Beastie Boys and Stan Lee have been honored. This year, the focus is on He-Man and The Masters of the Universe.
If you’re like me, you grew up playing with and loving the Masters of the Universe toys. I had nearly every character, even hard to find figures like Orko, Prince Adam, and Evilyn. Ah memories.
Well, a number of artists are contributing to the exhibition, each one with their own “unique vision of the wonderfully rich fantasy world of Eternia.” Check out a few pieces below, then head over to SlashFilm to see more.

The Under the Influence Art Show will be exhibited, free of charge, from January 8-29. For more info, check out Gallery 1988’s website here.

Renowned artist Toofly loves stationery, and lately she’s been geekin’ it out on paper goods. This year, she wanted to get to the heart of her work and make something that meant a lot to her, but didn’t break the bank in terms of cost.
“With so much of the day we spend distracted from our thoughts and feelings, it’s important to get back to basics and pour it all out on a blank page,” Toofly says. And so she’s designed these nifty, pocket sized sketchbooks.
Sketch, write, or tag on 32 pages of high quality, eco-friendly, 100% recycled paper featuring one of Toofly’s favorite girl mark illustrations. Printed with black soy ink on chipboard, these 3.5 x 5-inch sketchbooks boast saddle-stitch binding and rounded corners.

Each sketchbook is signed and numbered by Toofly. Cop yours now—the run is limited to 50 worldwide. Retailing for $12 each, the sketchbooks make great holiday gifts and are available exclusively at www.tooflynyc.com/shop.
