Jonathan Franzen Signed A Kindle

Well, this is pretty hilarious. A user from Reddit actually convinced novelist Jonathan Franzen to sign his Kindle eReader earlier this week. The acclaimed author allegedly elicited a “resigned sigh,” as his disdain for eReaders is legendary. It’s an opinion I share with Franzen.

The autographed device can be seen above: Franzen scrawled his name and wrote “SIGNED KINDLE” on the back of the device.

Earlier this year, Franzen expressed his contempt for eBooks, saying:

When I read a book, I’m handling a specific object in a specific time and place. The fact that when I take the book off the shelf it still says the same thing – that’s reassuring.

Apparently, he doesn’t care much for Twitter either.

The rise of eReaders and eBooks has always been a hot button topic amongst writers, readers, and those in the publishing industry. Where do you stand, Dear Readers? Are you a fan of this infernal technology? Or are you, like me and Mr. Franzen, members of a sensible society, one that cherishes the printed word and real books. (I suppose you can see where I stand.) Holler at me in the comments below!
