GUESTLIST by Jay Fingers

My debut novel GUESTLIST is coming out on March 27th. But then again, you already knew this.

In fact, you’re coming to the GUESTLIST book release party at Hanson Dry on the 26th. Right?

Right. And now, let me give you what you want. Read the latest excerpt from GUESTLIST below.

Despite the late hour, the scene outside of Akiko was still electric. People were way too drunk and leaning on each other for support. A few paparazzi were snapping photos and their subjects were posing gamely. Napoleon lifted the rope for Juliet.

“How are you getting home?” he asked her.

“The train,” Juliet said.

“Oh, no,” Napoleon said. “You live in the Bronx, right? No, no, I can’t have you ride the train home at this time of night. Here, let me get a taxi for you.”

“Yeah, I don’t have money for a taxi.”

“No worries.” He winked at her and walked toward the street, his hand in the air to get the attention of one of the oncoming taxicabs.

Juliet protested, but not too much. She could handle the train ride back to Hunt’s Point without any problem, but if she had the chance to settle in the back seat of a car that would drop her right in front of her door, shit, she was going to take it.

Napoleon successfully hailed a taxi, and it pulled up to the curb where he was standing. He stuck his head in the window to speak to the driver. Juliet looked inside her purse, to make sure she had her keys and phone. She started to walk over, but she glanced to the side and saw Ava right outside the ropes by the front door, talking on her cell phone. Though presumably in the middle of a conversation, Ava’s eyes were cast on Juliet.

I’m going to be nice, Juliet thought, and she waved goodbye to Ava.

Ava said something into her phone, ending the conversation, and walked toward Juliet.

Great, Juliet thought. Can’t even bounce without this bitch saying something smart to me.

“Leaving already?” Ava asked Juliet once she closed the distance between them.

“Yeah,” said Juliet. “I’ve got work in the morning so unfortunately I can’t stay.”

Ava glanced over at Napoleon, who was walking back toward them. She smirked at Juliet and said, “Sweetie, you are not the one.”

Just like last week, we see that Juliet and Ava just aren’t going to get along, no matter what. I know you can’t wait to see how all this wraps up! You’ll get your chance soon—GUESTLIST releases on March 27!

GUESTLIST releases March 27 in paperback, and in early April for Kindle, Nook, and iPad—though you can now pre-order the paperback from my store. And don’t forget to download the free GUESTLIST Official Mixtape by DJ Sage!
