In the day’s most, uh, uplifting story, GalleyCat reports that over eleven pounds of marijuana was mailed to the St. Martin’s Press offices today.

According to The Smoking Gun, the packages (with a street value of $70,000) were addressed to Karen Wright, a fictitious employee. The popularity of the story has prompted many in the publishing industry to try to uncover the meaning behind the name.

Further, this entire debacle has spawned the #PotLit hashtag, which is growing in popularity and inspiring a ton of literary titles with weed puns. My favorites? Allison Lynn’s (@allisondlynn) Finnegans Wake and Bake and Elliott Holt’s (@elliottholt) A Marijuana Tree Grows in Brooklyn.

All this is further proof that traditional publishing is going up in smoke. Ha!
