Watch the Book Trailer for Struck by Jennifer Bosworth (Video)

One of my most eagerly anticipated books of 2012 is Struck by author Jennifer Bosworth. The YA novel tells the story of Mia Price, a “lightning addict” who’s been struck by the weather-related electric discharges so many times, she’s covered in veiny red “lightning scars.” However, when a massive earthquake decimates her hometown of Los Angeles, Mia finds herself in a post-apocalyptic wasteland and torn between two factions, both of which want her to harness her powers for their own ends.

But doing so could mean bringing about the destruction of the entire planet.

GUESTLIST by Jay Fingers Mentioned by AllHipHop

20120423-115832.jpg

Over the weekend, popular music industry website AllHipHop featured my novel GUESTLIST in a post entitled A Breakdown of the Latest Urban Reads.

The article, written by Senior Staff Writer Biba Adams, says of GUESTLIST:

The standout debut is at the top of this list, and soon to be at the top of many others. The book is a funny and intriguing behind-the-scenes glimpse into inner workings of New York City nightlife among the Black, upwardly mobile crowd with lots of new money to burn. “Guestlist” is a page-turner from beginning to end, and one of the best independent books I’ve read in a long time.

GUESTLIST by Jay Fingers Reviewed at Literary R&R! #GLIST

20120419-094212.jpg

Awww yeeeaaahhh, we done done it again! My novel GUESTLIST was reviewed by the good folks over at Literary R&R. The reviewer, Charlene, had this to say:

Never shying away from sex and profanity, Mr. Fingers paints a realistic picture of the lives of his characters. We see clearly the ulterior motives behind each characters behavior, and never more so than in the last few chapters as things speed up and fall into place. The intensity of the drama plays out and catches you by surprise, as you realize things aren’t always what they seem in the glamorous life.

Hip-Hop is For Lovers Mixer Recap

Hip-Hop is For Lovers

Last night, I attended the Hip-Hop is For Lovers Mixer at Therapy Wine Bar in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn. The event was hosted by the lovely ladies of HH4L, Uche, Lenee, and Jakema, and boasted a nice, mixed crowd of music lovers, tastemakers, jetsetters, and liquor enthusiasts.

Uche held things down on the music front, playing the role of DJ and spinning everything from classics (Biggie’s “One More Chance/Stay With Me”) to more recent jams (Big Boi’s “Tambourine”).

I had a few adult beverages, including the concoction for which Hip-Hop is For Lovers is infamous: the Slow Motion. It features a sweet mélange of tropical flavors that will sneak up on that ass and then leave you on your ass.

You’re So Vain, You Probably Think GUESTLIST is About You #GLIST

Is GUESTLIST by Jay Fingers a Roman a Clef

Upon completion of a work, writers are always asked the same two questions.

The first is, “Which character is you?” or some variation thereof. It is constantly speculated that the story you’ve written is nothing more than a roman à clef, the fictionalization of real events and real people, a potentially damning bit of prose designed to humiliate those fucktards who’ve wrong the author in real life.

And that leads to second question – “Is [Character X] based on me?”

Or some variation thereof.
